Did you know that many first-time donors are unaware that organizations often expect subsequent donations, typically for larger amounts, in the following calendar year?
How would a donor new to giving know about this expectation? How do you think organizations could better communicate their future fundraising goals to new donors?
I wouldn't call it an "expectation," but certainly it's a "hope." The best way for nonprofits to secured a second gift is to do an exceptional job of saying thank you -- in a manner that's prompt, personal, and powerfully indicative of the impact of the gift. This needs to be done repeatedly throughout the year, including sharing emotional and relevant stories that move people to want to continue to be connected.
